For today's posting, I'll be showcasing a uniform shirt from the Bundesanstalt Technisches Hilfswerk, better known by the initials "THW". The THW is the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief, as it is known in English and internationally. This THW shirt is from a friend who is a member of one of the Berlin THW units.
The THW is a national civil defense and disaster relief organization in Germany. They are responsible for rescues, flood response, searches, supporting the fire services, and all other types of disaster responses. There are approximately 83,000 members, of witch about 99% are volunteers. The organization was started in 1950 and has been growing in size and responsibilities ever since.

This uniform shirt has the old style THW shoulder patch in use from the 1960's through the 1990's. The patch is a bevo style patch that is bound around the edges.
